About this program
Funds high-risk basic science and engineering including instrumentation development, and has repeatedly funded wildfire research — $1.2M in 2021 on wildfire-dispersed fungal pathogens, $1.6M to Stanford in 2022, and $1.2M to Colorado State in 2023 on smoke pollutant characterization. Does not fund translational, medical-device or clinical work.
