Douglas County (OR) commissioners approved a contract worth over $639,000 on Sept. 9, 2026 for phase one of a roadside fuel-reduction project covering 165 lane miles along Upper Cow Creek Road, Tiller Trail Highway, North Myrtle Road and South Myrtle Road (vegetation cutting and pruning, stump removal, mowing and weed control), funded entirely by a $6M+ USFS Community Wildfire Defense Grant. Work begins mid-September 2026 and continues into spring 2027; all grant work must be completed by Dec. 31, 2029.
