Announced July 16, 2024: Hawaiian Electric is deploying AI-enabled high-resolution camera stations from ALERTWest (software developed with UC San Diego's ALERTCalifornia) at 78 elevated-fire-risk sites across five islands, two cameras per site; the $14 million project is roughly half-funded by federal IIJA grant money.
