Avista Grid Hardening Program – Wildfire Resilient Infrastructure
AwardedDetails
Avista's 10-year grid-hardening initiative strengthens 3,100+ miles of infrastructure in high wildfire-risk areas of Idaho and Washington via steel pole replacement, fire-retardant wire mesh, fiberglass cross-arms, and conductor upgrades, completing 200+ miles across 17 feeders in 2021 alone.
Ten-year programme launched 2021 and still running in its sixth year. Avista published a Wildfire Mitigation Plan for 2026 (with a Public Safety Power Shutoff appendix) and files a Washington electric utility wildfire mitigation plan with DNR's utility wildland fire prevention advisory committee, both of which carry the grid-hardening workstream forward. Still current; no vendor named because Avista runs this as an internal capital programme with rotating contractors.
