U.S. Wildland Fire Service (USWFS)

Consolidated federal wildland fire agency launched January 2026, merging wildland fire operations from the U.S. Forest Service (USDA) and Interior's BLM, BIA, National Park Service and Fish & Wildlife Service under the Department of the Interior. Its planned scope includes a unified contracting and procurement center and a joint federal firefighting aircraft service; the FY2026 budget requested $3.7B for the consolidation, which Congress declined to fund as a standalone line. Federal wildland fire solicitations will increasingly flow through it, though existing awards remain under the agencies that issued them.
